Sessions

How sessions work

No surprises. Here is the whole thing, from booking to walking back out the door.

The session room: a patterned armchair with a mustard throw and cushions, a small dark side table holding tissues, a diffuser and dried flowers, and a ladder shelf of books beside a window.
  1. Before you come

Once you book, I will email you a link to a short form you fill in online. It covers your background and anything that would be useful for me to know. It takes about ten minutes and it means we can spend our time together on the work rather than on paperwork.

Please send it before your appointment rather than bringing it with you. I read it beforehand, and that is what lets us start where you are instead of at the beginning of a form. If you would rather do it on paper, there is a printable version and you can email that back to me instead.

If anything on it feels like too much to write down, leave it. We can talk about it in person, or not at all.

  2. On the day

You will find me in a quiet room at my home in Red Beach. The address is in your booking confirmation.

Wear whatever you are comfortable in. Nothing specific, and no need for short sleeves or sleeves you can push up. The touch works perfectly well through layers.

We start by talking for a bit. I want to understand what you have brought with you, and you want to get a feel for whether I am someone you can sit in a room with. Both of those matter, and the connection we build in that first stretch is part of the work rather than a warm-up to it. Safety and trust have to come first.

Then I explain the technique and show you the touch before I use it. Nothing happens without you knowing it is coming.

  3. The work itself

There is more than one Havening technique, so part of my job is choosing which one to use. Event Havening, for instance, if we are working with something specific that happened. I will tell you which one I think will suit and why, before we start.

We can change course partway through. I often go on intuition here, on whether something is working or whether a different technique would serve you better. The touch itself is always the same, whichever technique we are in.

You stay awake and aware. You are in the conversation the whole way through, and you can stop, pause or change direction whenever you want.

You do not have to talk about anything you are not comfortable with. You do not even have to know or remember what it was. Havening is flexible enough that we can work with the felt sense of a thing, the emotion, what your body is doing. Some people talk a lot, some barely at all. Neither is better.

And if it is all too overwhelming to pay attention to anything at all, that is fine too. We can do silent Havening, which is the same touch without working on anything in particular.

If at any point you would rather apply the touch yourself, say so. I will guide you through it.

None of this is outcome focussed. But we are curious, both of us, about what we might discover and what might shift.

A session in progress: a client rests back in the armchair with her eyes closed while Lisa applies the light Havening touch along her arms.
  4. Afterwards

We sit for a few minutes and debrief. How it went, how you are feeling, anything you want to share or ask. I will not hustle you out the door because the time is up.

I have not had anyone leave tired or wrung out. Quite the opposite: calm, and usually energised. Everyone I have worked with has left calmer than when they arrived. I will still talk you through what to watch for and how to look after yourself for the rest of the day.

Then I will get in touch a couple of days later to see how you are doing. Not to find out whether it worked. Just to see how you are.

How long, and how much

60 to 75 minutes
Where a session lands in that range depends on what it needs on the day. You will not be charged extra for the longer end of it.
$80 a session
Payment on the day. Cash or bank transfer, whichever is easier for you.
Koha is welcome
If $80 is out of reach, koha genuinely is welcome. It matters to me that this is not only available to people who can comfortably pay for it. Get in touch and we will sort something that works for you.

How many sessions

I cannot tell you. Some people come once. Some come for a while. We will talk about it as we go, and there is no package you have to commit to up front.

If you need to cancel

Just let me know. Life happens, and I would rather you told me than sat there feeling awkward about it.

Where

A room at my home in Red Beach, Auckland. In person only.

There is plenty of street parking at the end of our driveway, so you will not be circling the block looking for a space.

I do not work online. If you prefer that option, tell me and I will point you towards practitioners who do.
