Havening Techniques®

Questions

The things people ask me before they book. If yours is not here, just ask.

Do I have to talk about what happened?

No. That is the thing that surprises people most about Havening, and it is the reason a lot of people are willing to try it. You can work on something without narrating it to me. Some people do choose to talk, and that is fine too. It is your call, every time.

What if I do not know or cannot remember what caused it?

That is genuinely not a problem. Havening is flexible enough that we do not need the story or even the memory. We can work with the felt sense of it, the emotion, and what your body does when it comes up.

What exactly is the touch?

Slow, light stroking on your upper arms, the palms of your hands, and your forehead. That is all of it. No pressure, and nothing that hurts. I will show you before I do it. The touch stays the same whichever technique we are using.

Can I do the touch myself?

Yes. Some people prefer to apply the touch themselves, and that works just as well. I talk you through it and you apply it yourself. You do not need to give me a reason.

What if I do not want to be touched at all?

Then we do it the other way, with you applying it. Tell me at the start, or partway through, or the second time you come after being fine with it the first. You do not owe me a reason.

What if I get upset?

You might. It happens, and it does not mean anything has gone wrong. I am not going to be thrown by it and I am not going to rush you. We slow down or we stop, whichever you need. If it is all too overwhelming to look at anything, we can do silent Havening instead, which is the same touch without working on anything in particular.

How will I feel afterwards?

I have not had anyone leave tired or wrung out. Quite the opposite: calm, and usually energised. Everyone I have worked with has left calmer than when they arrived. I will still talk you through what to watch for and how to look after yourself for the rest of the day. We debrief before you go, and I get in touch a couple of days later to see how you are doing. That is not me checking whether it worked, it is me genuinely wanting to know how you are.

How many sessions will I need?

I do not know. Some people come once, some come for a stretch. There is no package and nothing to sign up for.

What if it does not do anything for me?

That is a real possibility and I would rather say so up front. It is also worth knowing that not much happening in the room is not the same as nothing happening. A few people describe an immediate shift. For most it is slower and quieter, and it is only looking back that they notice anything at all. My own was the slower sort. All that said, Havening is not right for everyone. If it is not doing anything for you, I will tell you, and I will help you think about what might suit you better. I am not going to keep taking your money out of politeness.

Is it confidential?

Yes. What you bring stays with me. The only exceptions are the ones any practitioner has, where there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else. I will always try to talk with you first if that ever came up.

Do I need to know what I want to work on?

No. Plenty of people arrive knowing only that something feels heavier than it used to, or that something has always been there without being able to pinpoint what it is. We can start there.

What should I wear?

Nothing specific. Something you are comfortable in. There is no need for short sleeves or sleeves you can push up, because the touch works perfectly well through layers.

Do you work online?

No. I only work in person. If you prefer that option, tell me and I will point you towards practitioners who offer it.

Where are you?

A room at my home in Red Beach, Auckland. The address is in your booking confirmation, and there is plenty of street parking at the end of our driveway.

What does it cost?

$80 a session, payable on the day. Cash or bank transfer, whichever is easier. If $80 is out of reach, koha is welcome. Get in touch.
